					<description><![CDATA[Such a helpful article! I just called to cancel and told them my kids had moved out to go to College and I don&#039;t watch TV. She seemed totally disbelieving and  asked what I did for entertainment, had I &#039;never watched anything on TV&#039; etc. Then tried to &#039;upgrade&#039; me by giving me more services for the same price. When I stuck to my guns, she insisted that I keep the basic package (removing the sports etc) and reducing my bill from €123 pm to €26pm. Kept claiming she didn&#039;t &#039;understand&#039;. Eventually I asked if I should spend €26 pm on alcohol if I didnt drink? There was no answer to that so my subscription moved quickly then to cancellation. They don&#039;t want my sky box back as it is &#039;too old&#039; and I will be free in 31 days !!! Thank you so much - I am not sure if I would have &#039;escaped&#039; without the advice in the article. Best case it would have taken a lot more of my time and added frustration. as my debit card was stolen and had to be cancelled i missed a payment in my direct debit [im a sky customer over 20 yrs ]they siad they would cancel my subscription unless i payed the month i missed i tried to phone them 3 times and each time was told i would be waiting 40 min to talk to someone which i was not willing to do  they have now cut me off should i cancel mt direct debit ---&#039;&#039;&#039;i can do without sky

Although this might be outside the scope of my post/knowledge I would say: 1) If they stated they have you on file a recorded conversation over the phone, where you expressed your will to the TV, per current GDPR regulation you are entitled to request from them a copy of the phone call conversation (called also Subject Access Request). This usually would be free of charge. Although they might ask you for some administrative (reasonable) fees. 2) If your minimum term for the contract duration ended and there is no renewal to a new contract (proof of email, letter, phone call etc) you have the right to call them asking to Cancel your SKY TV subscription and if the same for the broadband too. But, this all depends on what they see on their dashboard. For example they might say you told them over the phone to renew the contract etc. So the main point here is to demonstrate/undersand that currently you don&#039;t have any pendings to a minimum lenght contract duration. Sometimes when you do upgrades/downgrades you are then assigned to a new contract which then has a minimum lenght of duration. 3) You can also call them and express you want to open a complaint over the phone. The &quot;Billing complaint&quot; reason is the quickest to get response (according to Sky Ireland &quot;within 5 working days&quot;. If they force you to choose another reason, you might end up to the &quot;within 10 working days&quot;. They have to reply. The first tier of complaint is where they double check probably what you said etc. If you are not satisfied, you can ask to escalate your complaint (second tier). It all depends on what they have on record.
